Jamie McFarlane 's Fool Me Once (Privateer Tales, Book 2) is a very fast paced sci-fi adventure. While the story and characters are exciting, the relationship to the previous book protagonists was very superficial, which I personally found disappointing. However, that said, I did enjoy the protagonists in this book. I would urge sci-fi readers that enjoy strong female characters to give this book a spin. I don't think they'll be disappointed.Product details

Perhaps if I stuck with it, the book would have gotten better. But I dumped this one quite early going. They made no attempt to catch you up from book 1...which I had not read....so I was immediately lost and after listening for a short time immediately lost total interest.
Very much enjoyed the simple clean characters in an unusually interesting domain,
Most space opera is set in a magical non-relativistic universe, filled with technology pretty far from our reach. That is often intriguing, but it is easy to lose sight of the fact that the solar system is a bloody big place and that it could take a long while for the cops to arrive.
This series does a great job in making a credible universe based on technology we can comprehend and could make with only a couple of scientific leaps and time and money.
It is a world that could conceivably emerge from ours in a couple of hundred years without deus ex machina rampage.
That's cool.
I want more.
This was a good read, but not as good as book one. I don't like the sex related subject, as I can't recommend it to a grand daughter that wanted to read it while visiting me. However the third book returned to a very good readable series.Just skip this one.
Celina is a slave. Well, she was a slave. A well meaning but slightly naive privateer saved her from space pirates. Now she's on a mission to save her sister before she suffers the same fate. It won't be easy. Her former masters are hot on her tail. One false move will land her back in their clutches. A fate worse than death.
Jamie McFarlane brings another tale in his Rookie Privateer universe. A young girl in the worst of circumstances overcoming impossible odds. This short story has much of what we love about Jamie's work. Lots of action and hair raising adventure.
I was excited to get this book after reading the first book. I assumed that it was a continuation of the first book. I was so wrong thinking that. Though, not in a bad way. Book 3 is a continuation of a subplot. I purchased the book yesterday and I finished today.
There are a lot of bad guys, very bad guys. Even though the story is set in the distant future the reader can relate because, humanity will not and has not changed. The main character is someone you can relate to and empathise with who also has good moral character.
The only negative comment that I can say is, the story was short. Other than that book 3 is a very good read.
Took me for a loop. This story continues from Celina's release in the last book. I liked what they did here.
They pick her story and go with it. She an interesting female lead.
Celina now escaped with a fair bit of start up loot is now running from the pirates and searching for her sister. With few clues and much fear she has to figure who to trust and where to run.
She has a poorly maintained ship and limited amount of credits.
An interesting run and nice switch from loose nuts.
I wish books 2 and 3 were switched letting us continue with the main gang for one more story but I understand that the author needed to add this group.
Don't worry the loose nuts gang returns in several of the upcoming books. But also share books with other developing characters.
I'm starting book 9 now and I have enjoyed the series to date.
Having thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the series, I was concerned how I would feel about one that dealt with totally new characters. I really wanted a series that continued the story of the characters I had grown to like in the first book. I should have trusted the author. This is an outstanding addition to the series. This is the story of Celina, and it answers many of the questions about her that came to mind while reading Rookie Privateer. Great series so far - can't wait to read the rest!
