Best pure science fiction series ever written! I have loved this series since I originally read the first four books in paperback back in the 1960's and was overjoyed to be able to purchase the series on my Kindle. I was beyond joy to find the fifth and final book on Kindle!

Chanur Legacy C J Cherryh 9780886775599 Books Reviews

Love this author, she is renowned for her writing. I've bought this series at least 5 times in my life to replace worn or damaged editions.
Cherryh's writing is always superb. I had read the Chanur's trilogy some years back and ran across this book looking for a different series, ordered it and read it. It is a fitting follow-up on the first three books. I have all of Cherryh's sci-fi books and like them all.
While in the same universe and setting, this book is several years down from the previous 4 and like many of Cherryh's alliance-union books stands on it's own. And tells it's own tale. Quite a good read and a must for any Cherryh fan.
I love this book, I love this series! I reread this series every three to four months and I love it as much on the last reading as I did on the first! I know the author is better known for her other series but in opinion this is one of the best science fiction series ever written. My only complaint is that the author is not adding to the series. If only C. J. Cherryh would add to this series as it is one that cries out for more books to be written to feed the addiction to the Chanur universe that this series has brought forth in those of us who have fallen in love with the series.
Chanur's Legacy is a fitting conclusion to the Chanur saga. It stands on it's own, but it certainly follows all the themes that run through the earlier novels The Stcho are flighty but opaque, the Kif are dangerous, the Mahi are devious. There is interspecies, as well as internal politics involving Pyanfar and there is also another male spacer with a license but little real skill inserted to add another level of complexity. Could one still hope to see Pyanfar striding across the dock in some future adventure?
Spoiler alert. One of my favorite moments in the Chanur series is when Pyanfar meets a young Hani male who tells her that she the reason that he was able to escape the fate that his sexist society had in store for him and reach for the stars. Of course I wanted to know what became of him and now I do. His destiny was a bit cliched but it is refreshing to see sexist stereotypes turned on their heads even if they are still recognizable from an upside down position. Great Read!!!!!
I liked the story but I'm not a huge fan of Pyanfar's neice, Hilfy, who is the protagonist of this novel, probably because she's a little jealous of her aunt. The story takes place several years after the end of the third novel in the original series. Pyanfar has managed to bring peace, but things are not always what they seem.
